REGULATIONS & INSTRUCTIONS TO COMPETITORS

  1. Associate members – An associate member is a junior member who wishes to compete in both junior and senior classes, due to height of horse/rider combination. To be eligible for senior classes the junior member must pay full senior membership and be competing on a horse exceeding 148cms (14.2hh). Horse must be appropriate to the riders height. The junior must be between the age of 13 yrs and 16yrs to take up associate membership.

  2. Trophies won at the September show must be returned to the Trophy Secretary by the August points show in the following year (not the annual) at the latest. A penalty of £10.00 plus the cost of any telephone calls and postage will be levied on all late returns.

  3. Trophies awarded at the presentation dance must be returned to the Trophy Secretary by 15th October in the following year at the latest. A penalty of £10.00 plus the cost of any telephone calls and postage will be levied on all late returns

  4. To receive a trophy at the September members show, members must be paid up members by the June show and also must have competed at three shows in that class not including the annual show. In the event of a show being cancelled this rule may (at the discretion of the committee) be amended. To collect your trophy you must present a valid membership card at the trophy tent

  5. Riders will not be allowed to take part in any riding event if not correctly dressed. Correctly secured British Standard Skull caps/Riding hats (No PAS015, EN1384 or (USA)ASTMF1163 must be worn at all times when mounted and secured by a three point harness or riders will be excluded from all classes. This rule will be strictly adhered to.

  6. Junior members competing in any in-hand class must wear a hard hat as defined in rule 5 above

  7. No objection can be placed without a £20.00 deposit being placed with the Secretary which will be forfeited if the objection is not sustained. The objection must be placed in writing to the Secretary, providing full details. Any dispute as to the height of a horse/pony shall be decided by a JMB certificate supplied by a veterinary surgeon to be produced by the owner, to the Secretary within 14 days.

  8. The judge’s decision is final

  9. The committee reserves the right to refuse entries or combine classes in the event of insufficient entries

  10. The committee reserves the right to make any alterations to the classes, events, programmes and times as necessary

  11. No horse/pony aged under 3 years may be ridden at any event organised by the club

  12. Three year old horses/ponies may only be ridden in flat classes

  13. In order to qualify for points awards, competitors must have attended at least three points shows in the season. In the event of a show being cancelled this rule may be amended at the discretion of the committee. The combination of horse and rider must have entered the respective classes on three occasions.

  14. In-hand classes – The handler must be named on the entry form. In leading rein classes the rider should be named on the entry form

  15. Whips must not be used excessively on the showground

  16. No entries will be accepted after the class sheet has left the secretary’s tent

  17. The organisers reserve the right to refuse any entry or horse/pony which they do not consider suitable in order to safeguard the public and other competitors against accidents

  18. All members are asked to co-operate with the officer and stewards of the club. Remember, help is on a voluntary basis and that should be respected

  19. A competitor may not return to a class if they have left it to compete in another class except by the discretion of the judge. If this is not granted, the entry fee will be forfeited

  20. Juniors are not be permitted to wear spurs in any classes. No competitor may wear spurs in the following classes – any novice class, any M&M class and the ridden veteran

  21. Whips must not exceed 30” in length

  22. Members should not contact the secretary on the Saturday before a show

  23. In all lead rein classes the leader must be sixteen years or over

  24. Children being shown on the leading rein are only eligible to enter leading rein, first ridden, bonny pony and novelty classes

  25. The minimum age for riders is 3 years old on 1st January in the current year

  26. Colts and stallions must only be handled by persons over 14 years and kept under control at all times or they will be asked to leave the showground. Handlers must wear a hard hat to the standards referred to in rule 5 at all times when in the ring

  27. Stallions under 138cms may only be ridden by persons over 12 years and stallions exceeding 138 cms may only be ridden by persons over 14 years

  28. Colts aged over 1 year and stallions entering any in-hand class must wear a bridle

  29. Riders must not wear earrings or other jewellery

  30. All Blackpool and Fylde horse club events will be run in accordance with BSPS and Ponies (UK) rules, copies of which can be obtained from these organisations

  31. The points scheme will run as follows: 6 points for 1st place down to 2 points for 5th place. A point will be awarded to any unplaced members competing in a class
